Brandon Wells' love of coffee traces back to the first cup he ever had with his grandmother, twenty years before any of this existed. When he and his wife Nicole married eighteen years ago, they turned that memory into a shared ritual, one that changed entirely when someone gave them a home coffee roaster as a gift. A class at Boot Coffee Camp in California followed, then an origin trip to Colombia, and Nicole earned her Q-grader certification, a real, formal credential in professional coffee cupping. They started giving away home-roasted beans as gifts under the name "Wells Roast," launched a Kickstarter in 2013, and Wells Coffee Company was born. The first shop opened in Boca Raton in 2014 with a six-pound-capacity roaster, small enough that scaling up meant acquiring a proper space in downtown Fort Lauderdale in 2016 to open to the public. That Flagler Village location is still the flagship, since expanded with a second shop in Tarpon River, and one of the blends, "BB," is named directly after the grandmother who started it all. The reputation holds up: a 4.8-star rating from hundreds of reviews, with regulars praising the coffee quality and a staff that's genuinely passionate about the craft. Beyond espresso and pour-overs, the food side runs empanadas, egg frittatas, chocolate croissants, chocolate doughnuts, and seasonal drinks like strawberry matcha. The space itself reads as a real community hub, laptop workers and conversation both welcome, ample seating and WiFi. The honest gripes are minor: service can slow down at peak times, and a few reviews note drink sizes running smaller than expected. This is a neighborhood coffee shop built on a genuine personal story rather than a generic roaster brand, equally suited to a solo work session or a casual coffee catch-up. At a $ price point, it's built for daily rotation. Menu items, prices, and hours may have changed since this was written.
